Hibiki Blossom Harmony Whisky Limited Release 2022 (700ml)

The invitation of an enticing floral bouquet, followed by the signature Hibiki depth and complexity of honey, candied orange peel, jasmine and chocolatey decadence, all climaxing to a surprising finish of bitter sweet spicy notes. Hibiki means “Resonance” in Japanese. The Blossoms have always been an occasion for celebration in Japan, marking both the beginning and end of our traditional year. There are as many farewells as there are hellos, inspiring us to appreciate life as it blooms. Gathering around the flowering Sakura trees brings us closer together with those we love. Hibiki Blossom Harmony captures this joyful intention. A rare selection of whiskies finished in sakura wood casks have been specially blended with diverse malt and grain whiskies, well matured over many seasons, to create this particular Hibiki. What results is a Hibiki created to remind us how precious life can be. To be shared with those who make us blossom. The House of Suntory has been exploring and experimenting with various wood types for many years. The Sakura cask in particular was one that intrigued Fifth Generation Chief Blender Shinji Fukuyo.

From its launch in 1989 to commemorate the 60th Anniversary of Suntory, Hibiki embodies the Suntory philosophy to live in harmony with nature and people. As the Founding House of Japanese Whisky and A House of Master Blenders, the House of Suntory has gone to great lengths to explore the breadth and depth of what Harmony can mean for a blend. Every Hibiki expression is one of the most sought after blends in the world where every Hibiki expression is meticulously crafted for us to discover a different kind of Harmony. Achieving the right balance and orchestration proved to be a great challenge from the start since the Sakura cask is one with strong character that can easily become overbearing. 

“I have been mesmerized by the Sakura cask for quite a number of years now. Not just for its symbolism but for its distinctive subtly floral and spicy aroma and flavor notes. There have been many experiments both with malt and grain whisky components but like in any relationship you can’t quite calculate what the outcome may be. What we did find was that there was a special alchemy between the grain whiskies and the Sakura cask. It is this special relationship – harmony – that inspired me to concoct this blend.”

Wafting Floral Scents, Sakura, Sweet Almond, Fragrant Olive.

Palate:
Smooth mouthfeel, expanding fragrance, acacia honey, French pear, and a refined sweetness suggestive of Sakura Mochi.

Finish:
A long-lasting rich and brilliant aftertaste.
